Workforce Development Programmes

We have worked with Primary Care Trusts, Local Authorities and Drug Action Teams to help them roll out new strategies like new Dual Diagnosis strategies, Alcohol schemes, new approaches to Targeted Youth Support staff working with Young Substance Users and Hidden Harm strategies.

Typically, we will design a range of courses that meets the needs of different people in the workforce and build in launch events, facilitation of multidisciplinary work and follow-up support groups.

For example, in Bradford we helped them launch a new Dual Diagnosis strategy. This involved training mental health staff to understand drug use and drug staff to understand mental health and then we go them together to explore effective joint working. With one of our partner organisations, Motivational Matters, we provided more in depth skills training for those staff who would be working with people with the most demanding forms of Dual Diagnosis. At the other end of the scale we ran awareness raising events for non-specialist community staff. Then we facilitated the launch of ongoing peer support groups to ensure the gains made continued into the future.

What commisioners tell us they like about our approach is our flexibility to work around diverse local needs.
